EDMONDS, Wash. — A harbor seal that was rescued on a West Seattle beach, rehabilitated and returned to Puget Sound was found dead three months later, tangled up in fishing line off an Edmonds pier.
The head of the Edmonds Seal Sitters organization, Susan Morrow, says the story of Sandy the harbor seal is unusual because she had hundreds of followers who tracked her travels as a transmitter updated a website.
Sandy was an emaciated pup when she was found in August. She recovered after five months of care at the Progressive Animal Welfare Society wildlife center at Lynnwood. After her release in January near Olympia, tracking information showed Sandy traveled as far north as the San Juan Islands.
